Show Fairview War Victim Is Given Hero's Burial At Home Technical Sergeant Bert G Christensen, who was killed in Germany on Dec. 6, 1944, while serving as a non-commissioned officer in charge of a mortar section, Co. "K", 333rd Inf. 84th ("Railsplitters'T division, U. S. Army, was honored at graveside services Thursday, October 7. The Fairview Post of the A-merican A-merican Legion occorded full military honors and burial was under the direction of the Albert Madsen funeral home with Bishop Bish-op Otis Nielsen in charge. T-Sgt. Christensen was the son of Samuel and the late Lenora Andersen Christensen and was born June 2, 1922, in Fairview, Utah. He was a graduate of the North Sanpete high school and was attending the Utah State Agricultural College at the time of his enlistment December, Decem-ber, 1942. Bert was an Elder in the L.D.S. Church. He received his military training train-ing at Camp Howze, Texas; Camp Claiborne, Louisiana and was assigned overseas Sept. 1, 19-44 19-44 while training with a mortar section in the Infantry. He received re-ceived the good conduct medal, expert rifleman's award and the purple heart. The body of T-Sgt. Christensen was temporarily interred in the U. S. Additional survivors besides the father include a sister, Mrs. Elmer V. Knudsen, Copperto:i. and the following brothers; A. D. Christensen, Copperton; Jean K. Christensen, Roosevelt, Utah; Maurice A. Christensen, Chandler Arizona; T-Sgt. Keith G. Christen sen, U. S. Army Air Corps. Great Falls, Montana. Mrs. Bertha Christensen this week assumed the duties of cor-I cor-I respondent for the Pyramid at t airview. The wellknown city librarian succeeds Miss Adcal Rasmussen, a daughter of Mrs. Winnie Rasmussen, Ras-mussen, who resigned the correspondent cor-respondent post in order to devote de-vote more time to her studies at North Sanpete High School which she entered thU fall as a junior. Mrs. Christensen is the wife of Aften Christensen. They are the parents of a son and two daughters, Wendell Christensen and Mrs. Ellis Orton of Fairview and Miss Fawn Christensen of Salt Lake City. Rny Clement, a son of Mrs. Hannah Clement of Fairview will be honored at a farewell testimonial testimon-ial Saturday evening. October 8 at 8 p.m. at the Fairview North ward chapel. Following the farewell services a public dance will be conducted at the City Amusement hall. Arrangements Ar-rangements for the farewell program pro-gram are being made by the Fifth Quorum of Elders of which Elder Clement is a member. He will serve in the New England Eng-land mission and will enter the ' Missionary Home at Salt Lake j City Nov. 8. for preliminary instruction. in-struction. ! |
