Show Young Men Are Needed In The Army Air Corps Emphasizing the current need for young men in the Army Air Forces' Aviation Cadet program, Major Oliver P. Shaffer, special Air Corps representative assigned to the Utah, Idaho, and Nevada area, visited here yesterday. "Men between the ages of 17 and 26 are needed and needed urgently in the Aviation Cadet program to be trained to fly A-merica's A-merica's planes," Major Shaffer said. This program offers special opportunities op-portunities for training, advancement, advance-ment, and service to the men who can qualify as pilots, bom- bardiers, or navigators, he pointed point-ed out. Men from this area are particularly particu-larly needed now if existing quotas are to be filled, he said. Young men of 17 years of age who qualify under this program will be sworn directly into the Air Forces for Aviation Cadet training. These 17-year-olds will not be called to begin training until after their 18th birthday, but while they are waiting call to duty, they may wear the silver and blue wings presented to all men of this age group who qualify, quali-fy, Major Shaffer said. Men between 18 and 26 years of age may qualify, then apply through their local boards for volutary induction and directed assignment to Cadet training, he said.
