Show NYA Raises Hour Schedule To Speed Defense Experience rn 1 .i j.u speeu up wore experience in defense skills, the National Youth Administration for Utah announces that double the time previously required .will be scheduled sched-uled for NYA youth in, defense shops. The new 160 hour month for NYA trainees in the Out of School Work Program, however, will include time spent in related 'raining furnished by the State Department of Vocational Education Edu-cation through local schools. Sharp restrictions are being placed on the number of youth assignees to non-defense work projects but the quota has been raised on assignees to defense work. Non-relief Youth, 17 to 24, who have finished school, and who are without steady work or unemployment un-employment compensation are eligible for assignment to the NYA Out of School Work Program. Pro-gram. Youth willl be paid for part time production work done for national, state, and local government agencies, strictly noo.-competitive witlh private industry. Many industries essential to defense report shortages of skilled skill-ed men, therefore NYA assingees to defense work experience will acquire trade skills in welding, fheetmetal, forge Shop, machine shop, and radio to help in meeting meet-ing this fhortage. Insofar as possible, all NYA projects offering offer-ing defense work experience will operate in shifts to full shop capacity ca-pacity so that marlhine equipment 'will be seldom idle. Most NYA assignees even when not classified as on defense work experience will actually be doing defense work 'under the new National Na-tional Youth Administration plans ."or Utah. |
