Show Committees Make Plea for Better. 1938 Program Recomirr.ter.dations for the 1938 agricultural conservation program f r Utah as drawn up at the Utah State Agricultural College last week at a three-day conference of farmers and representatives of agencies ag-encies serving farmers were announced an-nounced this week by Director William Wil-liam Peterson, in charge of the AAA fcr the state. The conference listed seven new practices fcr next year, approved of certain phases of the 1937 program, pro-gram, modified certain provisions, and eliminated others that did not conform tj the desires of the representatives rep-resentatives present. Following are the new practices that will be suggested to the officials of-ficials at Washington, D. C. to be i. eluded in the 1938 program for Utah: "1. We feel that we are justified ir, initiating a program of old tree removal and compensating orch-aidists orch-aidists for this practice. "2. We recommend that the irrigation irri-gation program be approved on a state-wide basis. "3. We roccm(mend a payment 1'. r the application of barnyard manure ai d for the application of nitrogen to orchards. "4. We recommend that consid-e consid-e aticn be given to the irrigation tf orchards on proper contour. "5. We recommend that more consideration con-sideration be given to the consid-ei consid-ei aticn of non-diversion farms the le-allotment of privileges that they might earn their maximum payments. "G. Because the prpular sentiment senti-ment seems to indicate that we go back to the 30 per cent and 70 per cert division, we recomynend further consideration be given this matter before a determination is made. "7, We recommend that in the case of sugar beets, a modification and liby alizing of the lulings be made to permit tenants and share croppers to receive payments due to operating no soil-conserving acres." |
