Show Symphony Week Oct. 15 to 22 to End with Concert Maestro Maurice Abravanel, starting his fourteenth season as musical director and conductor of the Utah Symphony, will start rehearsals re-hearsals for the 1960-61 season on the opening day of "Symphony "Sym-phony Week" October 15 and the first iSalt Lake City concert will be staged the closing day, Saturday, Satur-day, Oct. 22. Rehearsals will again be held at the Music Hall at the University Univer-sity of Utah, and practically all of last year's members will be back for the new season, according accord-ing to Shelley Hyde, personnel director for the Symphony. The opening concert will include in-clude Wagner's Overture to "Tannhauser;" Copland's "Quiet City" Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite;" and Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony." "This should be extremely ex-tremely popular program to open the season," reports Manager Herold L. Gregory. Interest in the Symphony is reaching a new high. A record for season tickets was' established last year, but there Is every Indication In-dication that the 1960-61 season ticket sale will surpass last season. sea-son. Because of this, music followers fol-lowers are urged to make ticket reservations as soon as possible. A special event that is holding tremendous early interest is the appearance here of Van Clibum in a special concert on Wednesday Wednes-day Dec. 7. Tickets may be reserved re-served now for the event. The Symphony will perform in all parts of the state again this year. The schedule is now being arranged.
