The report concluded con-cluded with this statement: "The best sample of canned beets we have ever tested." Housewives ' who still do their own canning and there are still thousands of them are taking advantage ad-vantage of the abundant supply and top quality produce offered at such advantageous prices. Time is running short, however, and the cool crisp air of these mid-September mornings should serve as a reminder re-minder that a "killing" frost may be expected most any time. September Sep-tember 21st marks the end of the Summer of 1954. Withal it has been a pleasant three months. A little hot and dry at times, but nothing like the extremes of heat and drouths experienced in so many other parts of our country. A ride through Utah Valley at this time of the year is proof positive posi-tive that this is a good place to live. Fruit stands and the "market wagons" of fanners are literally teeming with the good things of life. Fruit of all kinds and vegetables vege-tables of outstanding quality are to be had for most reasonable prices. Utah Valley canneries have been running to near capacity for the past several weeks, and the "campaign" "cam-paign" will continue for some time to come. Yesterday I saw a report from an independent testing lab- Now comes the glorious Utah Autumn, which in the opinion of this writer, is the most enjoyable season of the year. Clear, warm days, and cool invigorating nights. Had October been built to order, the results could not have been moi nearly perfect. Karl Banks |
