Bob Gilden, extension engineer at the University of Wyoming, sets forth some simple rules for these farmers who want to ruin their farm machinery: 1. Don't clean tractor engine filters. filt-ers. Your engine will wear out several times faster when filters are clogged. 2. Use bailing wire or any piece of scrap iron as a substitute for a broken part. Soon you'll have lots of scrap Iron for further repairs. 3. Skimp on grease. That way, parts wear faster and break sooner. 4. Let it rust. This is a sure fire way to the scrap heap. 5. Never clean an engine. The dirt will cover small defects so you'll have a big breakdown Instead In-stead of a little one. 6. Don't buy anti-freeze in winter. win-ter. If yoa don't burst the engine block in cold weather, you might be using the same old block for years. 7. Always use pliers on gas line connections and carburetor fittings you'll soon have the corners worn so that the connections won't even turn with the proper wrench. 8. Let the battery run down. If it goes dead, you can get more exercise cranking the tractor. |
