Headlining- the list of convention conven-tion speakers will be National Farmers Union President James G. Patton. Mr. Patton is also a member of the executive committee commit-tee of the International Federation Federa-tion of Aggriculture Producers and a member of President Eisenhower's Eisenhow-er's nine-member public advisory board for the Foreign Operations Administration. Other Convention speakers will be C. E. Huff, former for-mer National President and General Gener-al Manager of Fanners Union Resources Re-sources Corporation; Gus F. Geiss-ler, Geiss-ler, former Assistant Manager, Federal Crop Insurance Coipora-tion Coipora-tion and presently Special Assistant Assist-ant to National Farmers Union President James G. Patton; and Mrs. Flossie M. Harris, National Director of Junior Activities. Farmers Union's program calls for 100 per cent of parity price supports for all farm commodities produced on family-size farm units only. Farmers union believes further fur-ther that it may be desirable to support farm prices through p reduction re-duction payments direct to producers, produc-ers, as in the wool program, rather than by purchases on the open market as is done with the present support program for basic crops. The organization also believes acreage controls may be necessary neces-sary to prevent over-production of any given commodity. Farmers Union advocates refunds re-funds of highway taxes on farm-used farm-used gasoline as a matter of "simple "sim-ple justice." It also feels that real property is being over-taxed and that a part of this tax burden should b2 shifted to taxes based on "the ability to pay." |
