Show John Swenson Leaves for Farmer Contest Utah's entry in the National Jaycee Young Farmer contest, John Y. Swenson of Pleasant Grove, left Salt Lake City by United Air Lines on Monday, Apr. 9 to attend the National Jaycee Annual Meeting which is scheduled schedul-ed in Pittsburg, Perm., April 11 and 12. While in Pittsburg, John will compete with forty-seven other oth-er state contestants for the selection selec-tion of "Best Four Young Farmers of America." John's wife, Carol, accompanied him to the eastern convention. Mr. and Mrs. Swenson flew to Detroit on Monday and from there by bus to Pontiac, Michigan, where they will pick up a new automobile on Tuesday morning. From here the Swensons will drive to the Steel City so as to arrive for the Jaycee Convention which begins with a noon luncheon given by U. S. Steel Corporation at noon on Wednesday. On Wednesday evening even-ing a reception is given by the Aluminum Company of America. Thursday's activities begin with a breakfast and tour of the Heinz Pickle Company. At noon the American Am-erican Farm Bureau Federation sponsors a luncheon. The reception in the evening, in which the National Na-tional awards are made to the four outstanding young Farmers, is sponsored by the Gulf Oil Co. The $16,000 budget for transporting trans-porting to and housing the Young Fanners in Pittsburg is furnished by the American Petroleum Institute. In-stitute. The State Award was won through a Jaycee sponsored contest, con-test, both on the local and state levels. Mr. Swenson is presently State President of the Young Farmers Association and past president of the Timpanogos Chapter of Young Farmers. The Central Utah Vocational Voca-tional School at Provo sponsors the T:...panogos Chapter of Young Farmers. The Swenson's plan to visit New York and Washington, D.C., before returning to Utah. |
