Show Older Folk Party Last Week Well Attended, Much Enjoyed Featured by stnimming gui-' tars, swaying Hawaiian maidens . and a delicious ham and turkey dinner, 302 Senior Citizens and-' special guests enjoyed "Older Folks Day" last Saturday. Fifty-two Fifty-two of the delicious dinners were also "sent out" to the shutiris. The day got off to' an auspicious auspic-ious start with a free picture show at 10:30 a.m. at the Grove Theatre, through the traditional kind courtesy of Keith Miller, manager. Those who passed up the show . because of choice or necessity, as sembled in the Senior High School : auditorium long before-the before-the 12:30 p.m: dinner hour.. Dur-" Dur-" ing the wait for the "come and get.it" signal, they: were -entertained with the. tunes of yesteryear. yester-year. Playing the favorite sjngs . " on .. guitar . and accord ian were - Terry ; Jenkins and . Lee Morten-son.' Morten-son.' There have ..been, excellent,. "Old Folks" dinners in past years; but the 1961 repast was a record breaker both in quantity, quality "and speedy service. General chairman Eldon Johnson and his numerous helpers promised - an -outstanding dinner." It was all of that. Cake and homemade ice cream topped off the bounteous meal. ' ' - " - Bishop Vilace Radmall offered -the invocation. The program :was emceed by Mr. Johnson and was also outstanding. out-standing. ' - -' ' In a skit titled "Roll Call 'by Proxy" Mr. and Mrs. Neil Fugal ' and Mr. and Mrs. Parley Christiansen Chris-tiansen paid tribute to the- two oldest residents of fach ward. Those honored were Clarissa Py-per, Py-per, William Hone, First; Edra Allred, William Pierce, Second; Mary Wadley, Joseph Robinson. Third; Ben Wamick, Henry Hall, Fourth; Pearl Wadley, Eva Fage, Fifth.' Josephine West, Thomas Love-land, Love-land, Sixth; Minnie Oscarsoh, J. L. Adams, Seventh; Jennie Ben-, 'nett, Ellen Stott, Grove; Mary Butt, Joseph Larsen, Manila; An. inie Bonny, David Thome, Lin- don; Enga ' Nerdin, Alva Johan. sen, Lindon Second. A group of native Hawaiians, all students at BYU, entertained for an hour with songs and dances. dan-ces. The climax to this program came -when the girls rushed into the audience and dragged a group of men to the stage to dance the hula with them. This act really brought down the house. By far the best of the novices was Alma Kirk, closely close-ly followed by Junius A. West and Boyd Fugal. Others who shook off the years and cavorted like teenagers were Dolph Warnick, Cliff Hales, Eldon Eld-on Johnson, Len Walker, Orval Carter, Lyman Sevy, Jim Green and Lee Woofinden. After order was restored and the singing of "Aloha" by the audience, chairman Eldon Johnson John-son gave closing remarks of appreciation. ap-preciation.
