Show Quarterly Conference Is Scheduled For Saturday and Sunday "CVS I X ' ' - ; A MM-J Bishop Joseph L. Wirthlin will preside at the Timpanogos Stake Quarterly Conference scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24, according to Stake President Pres-ident Boyd L. Fugal. The eighth presiding bishop of the church, Joseph L. Wirthlin, has had a long career of service in the church as a general authority, auth-ority, as a stake president, as a bishop and as a missionary. He was born in Salt Lake City, August 14, 1893, a son of Joseph and Emma Hillstead Wirthlin. Bishop Wirthlin served as a missionary mis-sionary in the Swiss-German Mission Mis-sion in 1913 and 14. He was a counselor coun-selor m the bishopric of the Thirty-third Thirty-third Ward of Liberty Stake from 1926 to 1928 when he was ordained ordain-ed bishop of the ward. He was a BISHOP JOSEPH L. WIRTHLIN . . . Will preside member of the Liberty Stake High Council for a short time before being appointed president of the Bonneville Stake in 1935. He was serving in this position in April, 1938, when called as second counselor coun-selor to Presiding bishop LeGrancl Richards. Eight years later, he became be-came first counselor, and in 1952, he was appointed Presiding Bishop. With his associates in. the Presiding Pre-siding Bishopric, he directs the Aaronic Priesthood program of the church. He also assists in directing direct-ing the Church Welfare program. He owns and for many years operated a meat packing and dis-triuting dis-triuting business in Salt Lake City. His wife is Madeline Bitner Wirthlin Wirth-lin and they have three sons and two daughters. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, a Welfare Meeting will be held. Those expected to attend are Stake Presidency, High Council, Stake Welfare Committee, and Ward Welfare Committee members. mem-bers. In connection with the Stake Conference, the Priesthood Leadership Lead-ership Meeting scheduled for Mar. 23 at 8 p.m. will stress continued emphasis upon the program for Priesthood reactivation. The following fol-lowing are requested to be present at this meeting: Stake Presidency and Clerks, High Council, Stake Senior Aaronic Priesthood Committee, Com-mittee, Stake Aaronic Priesthood Committee, Melchizedek Priesthood Quorum Presidencies and Secretaries, Secre-taries, Group leaders of Melchizedek Melchiz-edek Priesthood Quorums, Senior Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Presidencies Pres-idencies and General Secretaries, Bishoprics and! Clerks. General Sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. The 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening meeting will feature the traditional LDS Youth Conference and will be under the direction of the officers of-ficers of the Timpanogos Stake MIA. |
