Show Clamping Cow's Tail Ends Swishing Woe i The time honored jokes about farmers getting swished in the face by the cow's tail during milking milk-ing are about to go the way of all flesh. For eliminating this ancient nuisance farmers have to thank Frank M. Kaneski, a Duluth, Minn., inventor. Kaneski contends that "the only useful purpose known for a cow's tail is to keep flies off her, and there are no flies during the winter months." Beside getting in the way during milking, Kaneski Kane-ski feels the cow's nether extrem-; ity is insanitary. With these thoughts in mind, Kaneski recently received patent number 2,619,936 for a clamp to immobilize the tail all winter. Ha advocates punching through' the loose akin of the cow's flank-just flank-just forward of the hind leg and installing a permanent ring. "The ring will not hurt the animal any ! more than an earring hurts a worn-' worn-' an," he says. One end of the clamp fastens through the ring and the other end grips hair on the cow's tail. In the summer, the tail can be released to permit swatting at those pesky flies. As yet no one has tried to determine de-termine how the cow feels about all this. |
