Show Watkins Presents Resolution To Senate On Colorado River Storage Project In submitting the resolution, Senator Watkins said: "I believe that the entire project should be authorized in one measure and not piece by piece to be fought over a long period of time." Senator Watkins emphasized that there is general approval of the project by the parties concerned. Sen. Arthur V. Watkins (R-Ut.) Friday presented to the Senate a joint resolution of the Utah Legislature Legis-lature calling on the Congress to preceed with the development of the Colorado River in the Upper Basin States by authorizing the Colorado River Storage Project. Senator" Watkins pointed out in placing the resolution before the Senate that "The Upper Colorado River Project is vital to the future fut-ure development of Utah and the Intel-mountain West. It is my feeling feel-ing that this project should be authorized without further delay so that we can move forward with the years of planning and development develop-ment that will be required before construction can be started." The Utah resolution called attention at-tention to the fact that there has been a peaceful settlement of water wa-ter allocation of the upper basin, & that the River compact commission commiss-ion has completed a "dynamic" plan for the development of the project. The resolution stated that "a report re-port of the participating projects has been compiled by the Bureau of Reclamation, approved with modifications, by the Secretary of the Interior, and submitted by him to the Congress of the United States, and "Whereas, this desirable development devel-opment cannot be commenced without the authorization of the Congress of the United States of America. "Now, therfore, be it resolved by the thirtieth legislature of the State of Utah that the Congress of the United States of America, be and it is hereby memorialized to promptly, diligently, and fairly consider and act upon at this session, ses-sion, legislation to authorize the Colorado River storage project and participating projects." |
