Finances Are Now Assured For Lighting Baseball Park With the full cooperation of the Pleasant Grove City Council and the enthusiasm generated by the ten man committee, composed of representativs of all organizations of this city, the Pleasant Grove Activities Association is making great headway in developing the Pleasant Grove Recreation Park into one of the finest areas in the State of Utah, according to Chairman Chair-man Green. Since the city purchased the old rodeo grounds the City Activities Association has worked diligently planning an over-all development of the recreation area. The drilling of a well will furnish furn-ish ample water for the watering of the three acres of grass which will be planted during the next week and also will water the trees which will be planted on the east side of the area. The footoall field and baseball field will be sodded in grass, Vith a fine sprinkling system being installed. in-stalled. The expenditure for Che well and the sprinkling system is costing a little over $2600.00. A car load of lumber will ar rive this week for the seven-foot fence which will surround the baseball-football field. The committee com-mittee plans on selling advertising to pay for the material used in the construction. The largest expenditure for the development will be fn the installing install-ing of lights for night baseball and other sports. The committee is installing in-stalling a wonderful lighting system, sys-tem, with the latest flood lights that can be purchased, consisting of approximately 110 high power lights and reflectors. This expenditure expend-iture will be about $10,000. rieas-ant rieas-ant Grove City is underwriting $5,000 for the project. This money will be repaid to the city by the Activities Committee, according to Mr. Green. The balance of the money for the lights is being pledged by the local civic and religious organizations. organ-izations. The committee has already al-ready received a check for $500 from the chamber of commerce and the Chamber has already pledged pled-ged all the money from the concessions con-cessions for this year toward the developments at the park. The City Activities Association is asking that the wards of the stake give the net proceeds from the refreshments stands toward the development of the park, for this year. The LDS Church officials of Timpanogos Stake is solidly behind be-hind the movement to develop the reseieation area to a high degree, inasmuch as the City Council and the Pleasant Grove Activities committee com-mittee have agreed that no activities activ-ities will be cairied on at the park on Sundays. With the church, city, civic clubs and people generally behind the program of development of a high iype recreation park in Pleasant Grove, a program of recreation for this city can be worked out that will interest almost oine hundred per cent of the population. There seems to be a much better bet-ter cooperative attitude developing develop-ing within all groups since the rodeo grounds has been purchased by the city we, the people, now own it. |
