Show Election Returns Are Viewed The days that have elapsed since election day have given us all time to relax and contemplate with some degree of serenity the facts that have emerged from the surprising sur-prising landslide. . The bid .fundamental democratic ideal was again vindicated namely, name-ly, that we Americans have a way of voting our convictions regardless regard-less of campaign ballyhoo or preelection pre-election prognosticians. The above revelation was clearly clear-ly shown in the way the union members turned their backs on the mandates of the labor bosses, and voted for what and whom they pleased, regardless. Perhaps never before have the vomen of our country turned out in such surprising numbers to register reg-ister preference for the candidates of their choice. This is of course as it should be. The hopes of the feminine half of the electorate will continue to be a force to be rec-bnd rec-bnd with in all future elections. Contrary to the opinions of many intellectuals, the two party system in America is not dead. It still remains as a safeguard of our fundamental rights, and a curb to the power of the politically entrenched en-trenched bureauocrats. The election itself has not solved solv-ed anything. Elections never solve the problems which perplex us; but the present clear mandate has given us a fresh start, and a new outlook. Greater Utah Valley, Inc. congratulates con-gratulates the citizens of Utah for the interest displayed in the recent re-cent election. According to the press, 03 percent of our registered electorate cast their ballots on November fourth. This percentage is the highest in the nation. In this active response lies perhaps per-haps our greatest strength. It is the firmest answer to the Communist Com-munist dictators who proclaim that American democracy is a decadent de-cadent and defunct institution. We have emerged from the past campaign a stronger and more a-lert a-lert citizenry; with a clearer vision vis-ion of the problems to be solved and the emergencies to be met. |
