Show I Book for Our Time As long ago as the turn of the century, Bible scholars knew that the King James Version needed further revision. Recent manuscripts and archaeological discoveries showed that earlier versions contained con-tained thousands of errors. More than 300 words which meant one thing in 1611 meant something entirely en-tirely different now. A committee of 32 scholars, authorized by 40 denominations, denom-inations, began work in 1937. After 15 years of research, study and debate, de-bate, they have finished the Bible for our time. It is the Revised Standard Stand-ard Version, authorized by the National Na-tional Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. The first printing print-ing is nearly 1,003,000 volumes the biggest first printing in history. |
