Show Oliver G. Ellis To Be Candidate For State Post Oliver G. Ellis, Chief Deputy State Treasurer, will be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for State Treasurer. Reese M. Reese, the incumbent treasurer, is prevented prevent-ed by law from seeking reelection to a second consecutive term and has already announced his candidacy for the December nomination for auditor. Mr. Ellis was appointed Chief Deputy December 1, 1934, under Joseph Ririe and was retained in that same position by Mr. Reese. He was born in Ogden, educated in the public schools there and has had 15 year's experience in Salt Lake City and Ogden banks. He has also worked as a chemist for the Amalgamated Sugar company and served as receiver of a large canning company. In the State Treasurer's office he ! has handled the bona transactions I for the state board of loan com-t com-t missioners, in addition to his regu-: regu-: lar duties as chief deputy. Since he entered the office, approximately $9,000,000' in Utah State bonds have been retired and some $6,000,000 worth of bonds held in special funds have been continuously serviced by the department. Mr. Ellis has been active in the Democratic party for many years, but his present position is the first one of a political nature he has held. For the past five years he has been chairman of district No. 178 in Salt Lake City. He has served serv-ed in several executive positions for the L. D. S. church and was a mis- sionary in England from 1916 to 1919. During the years he was engaged in the banking business, Mr. Ellis organized and was first president of the American Institute of Banking unit in Ogden, served a second term as president in 1930 and was instrumental instru-mental in organizing bank schools in Logan and Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis have four children, chil-dren, and the family lives at 539 Seventh avenue, in Salt Lake City. |
