Show American Fork Locals Mrs. John W. Myev-s of Salt Lake, spent last weekend viiting here with her mother, Mrs. William Gardner. The Ladies Literary club will meet next Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, at the home of Mrs. Alice Christensen. Mrs. May W. Halli-day Halli-day is 'the assisting hostess. All members of the club are asked to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Burch and two children,. Patricia and Gary, are moving to Salt Lake where their new home recently has been completed. com-pleted. The home is located on the east side of Salt Lake and in one of the new building additions. Mrs. Leon Whipple and three children of Ogden returned home Sunday after spending several days here with Mrs. Whipple's mother, Mrs. R. L. Sweeten. Visitors at the Sweeten home during the week also were Janeen Foster of Price, and Bobby and Marilyn Foster of S'alt Lake, grandchildren of Mrs. Sweeten. Last Saturday evening the following follow-ing from this city were among the guests at a shower given in Magna by Mrs. Malcolm Orr, mother of Mrs. Elwood Robinson, a bride o'f this week: Mrs. Lot Robinson, Mrs. Kay Morton, Mrs. Lloyd Briggs, Mrs. Jean Fugal, Mrs. Wayne Smith, Mrs. Evan Stephens, Mrs. Wayne Robinson Rob-inson and Mrs. Kenneth Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Randall of Pleasant Grove were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Durrant. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wilde, who have been living a Thistle for the past several years, have been transferred trans-ferred to Richfield. Their daughter, daugh-ter, Cliftona, will complete her senior year in the Spanish Fork high school this year. A substantial donation of books was made to the American Fork public library this week by Dr. P. M. Kelly of Provo, formerly a member mem-ber of the library board here. Forty volumes of books of various kinds were presented as well as a 25-volume 25-volume set of Funk and Wagnall's standard encyclopedia. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shelley and daughter Irene and son Merlin returned re-turned la'te Sunday evening from a trip to Los Angeles. They visited with Mr. Shelley's uncle, Bert Householder and family and with other relatives and friends there and enjoyed trips to surrounding points of interest. j Mr. and Mrs. Harold Holley and Mrs. Relva B. Ross attended a party in Springville Tuesday night gven at the G. La wry Anderson home honoring Mr. Anderson's mother, Mrs. Olive L. Anderson, whose 80th birthday occurred that day. Mr. and Mrs. J. Bert Storrs le'ft for Morgan after spending a few days here visiting with Mr. Storrs' parents, Bishop and Mrs. Joseph H. Storrs. Bert and his wife for the past two years have been in Lawrence, Law-rence, Kansas, and prior to that spent nine years in South Dakota, employed in 'the government schools for Indians. He now has accepted a position as member of the Morgan high school faculty. Mrs. John H. Miller and daughter Elaine were among the guests at a luncheon given by Mrs. Wayne B. Hales and daughter, Miss Isabel Hales at their home in Provo Saturday Satur-day evening Tire party honored Miss Afton Bigelow, who on Wednesday Wed-nesday o'f this week became the bride of Keith Miller o'f this city. Mrs. Miller also was among the guests at a shower given by Mrs. Percival Bigelow, mother of the bride, at the Bigelow home during the past week. Tire sixth birthday anniversary II last Friday, was the occasion for Miss JaLaine Singleton to have Mrs. S. B. Nelson and two children, chil-dren, Ann and Joe, and Miss Elaine Werner of Mesa, Ariz., left for their home 1 Wednesday evening after spending two weeks here visiting with Mr. and Mi's. J. P. Werner. Mrs. Nelson, formerly Miss Virginia Vir-ginia Werner, is their daughter, and Miss Elaine Werner is a granddaughter, grand-daughter, being the daughter of their son Linford. Mrs. B. H. Wright, with relatives from Vineyard and Orem, attended the funeral services for Charles Handley, held in Springville Tuesday Tues-day afternoon. Mr. Handley was 89 years of age and recently he and his wife observed then' 64th wedding wed-ding anniversary. Miss Janice Chipman, daughter of Marshal and Mrs. Henry Chip-man, Chip-man, is spending the week in Lo-:;an Lo-:;an visited with her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Randall. Miss Nina Halliday has returned to Salt Lake to resume her work as music instructor in the Forrest school. Miss Halliday has been spending her summer vacation here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Halliday. Leo Gurney of Maywood, Cal., is spending a few days here and. in Lehl, on a combined business and pleasure trip, In compliment to Mrs. Walter F.axter, who is visiting from Fort Lewis, Wash., a canyon party was r:iven last Saturday night. Those participating besides the guest of honor were Mr. and Mrs. William . H. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Featherstone of this city; Mrs. Belle Baxter, Pleasant Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Orin Walker, Mr. and Mrs. James Baxter, Provo, Mrs. Fern Nicholes visited in American Fork Thursday afternoon en route trom Lake View, where she has been spending the summer, to Logan to resume her work as, a member of the A. C. staff of instructors. Mrs. Nicholes visited here with Mrs. Eleanor Nicholes and with her brother, George Scott and family. la party from four to six p. m. Mrs. Stanford Wilde entertained the members of the Feality club and two special guests, Mrs. Mark K. Allen and Mrs. John Varney, last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Lilly Wilde. Bridge was played, Mrs. Jesse Burch winning the high score prize; Mrs. Mark Allen the guest favor, and Mrs. Henry Chipman the consolation prize. A tasty lunch was served the 12 present. Monday afternoon little Miss Jeanne Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peters, had a birthday party to celebrate her second anniversary. anni-versary. Lawn games entertained the little folks, after which Jeanne's mother served refreshments to the guests, who were Kay and. Mary Varney, Ruth and Marcia Moss, Paul Kirkpatrick, Paul Murdock, Claudia, Helen and Mary Woolston, Jimmy Holley, Linda Anderson, Paul and Carolyn Walters, Jimmie Peters, Sally and John Van Wagoner. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Iverson and Mrs. Leonard Jackson attended the funeral services in the Le. Grande ward chapel in Salt Lake Tuesday afternoon for Emma June Iverson, 9, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Iverson. The child died Friday morning last in a Salt Lake hospital of a brain tumor. The First ward primary Book of Mormon class met at the home of Mrs. Melissa Robinson Monday night. Nineteen were present. Following Fol-lowing the lesson discussion led by Mrs. Bertha Sager, the hostess served refreshments. Funeral servioese were held Thursday afternoon in Cedar Fort for Mrs. Elva Irene C. Ault, 76, a resident for many years of that locality. Mrs. Ault died Sunday night of a heart attack. Among the survivors is a son, Clyde Ault of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Ault and their family attended the services. September 28 is the date set for the first ward Relief society bazaar. The officers of the organization report re-port the bazaar plans are progressing progress-ing satisfactorily, and a spelndid assortment of quilts, aprons, boys' shirts, fancy work, novelties, etc., will be displayed for sale on that date. The officers suggest, also, that the bazaar will be a good place to do some early Christmas shopping. Mrs. James S. Chadwick was hostess hos-tess to a delightful canyon party last Friday afternoon in American Fork canyon. Bridge occupied the afternoon and a hot dinner was served. The piembers of Mrs. Chadwick's club present were Mes-dames Mes-dames Myrtle Houston, Ida Cod-dington, Cod-dington, Ida Devey, Leila Sykes, Cleone Cleghorn. Edna Birk, May 3ennett, Anna Boley, and Delia Spafford. The other guests present were Mesdames Loraine Ingersoll, Detta Taylor, Eunice Wadley, Fay Briggs, Lucile Parduhn, Edna Meredith, Mere-dith, Leah Holley, Fay Clark, Alta Chipman, June Chadwick, Helen Ramsay, Louise Storrs, Virginia Murdock and Juanita Storrs. |
