Show City Asked to Continue Weekly Entertainments E. Ray Gardner, representing the Lions Club of this city met with the council which convened in special session last Saturday night and reported re-ported the club as being most anxious anxi-ous to have the summer weekly concert con-cert programs continue in the city park as has been the custom in preceding pre-ceding years, along with the half holidays. Mr. Gardner met with a view o fascertaining the attitude of the council with respect to the support sup-port of such a program o! recreation. recrea-tion. Mayor Storrs and the members mem-bers of the council expressed themselves them-selves as favorable to the movement and suggested that the Recreational Recreation-al committee confer with the concert committee from the Lions Club and submit a tentative budget of the probable cost of such a program, the investigation to be conducted at once thai action might be taken at the next council meeting, Saturday night. A request was received from the American Legion post and the Service Ser-vice Star Legion through the Legion commander, J. J. Mercer Jr., asking the city to countersign their note in the amount of about $800 hi order that the Legion building might be properly finished. Commander Mercer stated the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary and Service Star Legion would guarantee payment of the note within a three year period. Discussion arose as to the best way to assist the Legion in this matter. It was the council's decision that the Mayor and Recorder be authorized auth-orized to contersign a note covering a four year period. It is necessary for the city to sign the note because be-cause of the fact that the buiidlng would always remain in the nane of the city. A statement signed by fourteen families adjacent to the Owl Inn to the effect that an all night service at this refreshment stand will not disturb the peace and quite of the resdents of this city and that it would greatly! increase the business of this concern and be of great service ser-vice to the traveling public was presented. pre-sented. The advisability of such a ! procedure was carefully considered and action was deferred pending further investigation. The main object of the meeting was the consideration of all delinquent delin-quent water rates with the idea of taking definite action on each. Certain Cer-tain accounts deemed uncol?ectable incurred mainly by persons since removed re-moved from the city were stricken from the records. I The matter of sprinkling the ball! park during the baseball season was called to the council's attention and j the city agreed to take care of all charges in connection with this service. ser-vice. It was reported that a suitable lot had been found for the permanent establishment of the Editha Adams monument, honoring the memory of this pioneer school teacher, but that the committee had suggested that the city maintain this lot in lawn perpetually. Action on this was referred re-ferred until a later date. Delinquent business licenses were considered by the city fathers who decided that final notice would be' served on all delinquents that unless payment was made within ten days the places of business concerned would be closed. The city marshal was instructed to follow up this matter mat-ter closely. It was suggested that Weite would be installed by irrigation companies under the drough relief set-up which might interfere with the city's old water system and thereby curtail the possibilities of delivering the maximum amount of exchange water to the American Fork Irrigation Co. Inasmuch as such a procedure was a menace to our water supply, the matter was referred to the mayor and water committee to contact Engineer En-gineer A. Z. Richards with respect to the proper procedure necessary to protect the city's rights in the matter. |
