Kirn of Boise, Idaho, spent Monday in American Fork with friends and attending to matters of business. Mrs. Kirn is spending a month in Salt Lake. J. L. Firmage of Long Beach, and W. J. McCarron of Lcs Angeles, are spending the week here and in Salt Lake on business. They will leave Sunday for the coast and the Firm-age Firm-age family will return to American Fork within a short time to remain for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Halliday motored to Price Tuesday to get their daughter, Miss Nina Halliday, who has spent the past nine months in that city. Miss Halliday has been employed as a teacher in the schools there. Mr. and Mrs. Newell Hofheins and children of Copperton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Morrison of Salt Lake, attended attend-ed the party given here Tuesday night for Mr. and Mrs. George Meredith Mer-edith and daughter who are moving to South Dakota. Dave Strasburg of Highland suffered suf-fered a painful injury Tuesday while sawing wood at his place. The buzz saw broke loose and struck his right arm inflicting very severe gashes. They also visited while in Provo with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Basset Bas-set t and family. Mr. and Mrs. Noy Christofferson of Lehi are the proud parents of a toby son, born Sunday morning. Mrs. Christofferson was formerly .Miss Elma Wootton of this city, and with the new arrival is doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woodcox and children of Salt Lake motored to American Fork Sunday and accompanied accom-panied by Miss Bessie Robinson, drove on to Salem where they spent the afternoon. Mrs. Amy Brown Lyman of the General Relief Society Board is conducting a course of lectures beginning be-ginning with last Wednesday night, to be given twice weekly during the .month of June. The lectures are given In the civic room of the public pub-lic library, and a group of thirty -women have been registered. The presidents of the Relief Societies and the social workers of the wards of the Alpine and Timpanogos stakes are taking toe course, together with welfare workers of the FERA organizations organ-izations of the two cities. Miss Jane McPherson left yesterday yester-day for Nephi, having completed her work as a teacher here for the past I term. I Mrs. John Lollin and son Carl of Salt Lake spent Sunday here visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Myers. Mesdames L. B. Adamson, J. F. Walton, Mrs. K. J. Bird, Mrs. Laurence Laur-ence Briggs and Mrs. A. F. Gais-ford, Gais-ford, Jr. were among the guests : a party given by Mrs. Ethel Drys-dale Drys-dale of Pleasant Grove last Saturday Satur-day night. Complimentary to Miss Clea Meredith Mere-dith who leaves soon for South Dakota Da-kota to reside, her teachers and class mates of the First ward Bee Hive swarm, entertained at a party at Saratoga Tuesday night. The crowd enjoyed an invigorating swim after which they did full justice to the tasty lunch served 'afterwards. There were fifteen in the party chaperoned by the teachers, Mrs. Don Barratt and Mrs. LeRoy Okey. Mrs. Thomas Coddington entertained enter-tained Tuesday night having as guests Mesdames Hans Christensen, Elmer Bate, L. B. Adamson, A. F. Gaisford, Jr., Walter Devey, Sr., John H. Miller, A. B. Allen, John Robinson, W. R. Halliday, Thomas Friday, G. A. Anderson, Laurence Briggs, K. J. Bird, V. F. Houston and Verla Coddington of this city; Mrs. J. O. Meiling, Mrs. Leo Hansen Han-sen and Mrs. Ed Larsen of Lehi; Mrs. H. C. Jensen of Salt Lake , City. A delicious lunch was served i early in the evening at small tables ; following which bridge was played. . Mrs. Ed Larsen captured the high score prize and Mrs. Leo Hansen the consolation favor. The Relief Society officers and workers, the officers and teachers of the Sunday School, Primary and Mutual Improvement Associations of Mrs. S. T. Shelley and Miss Virginia Vir-ginia Shelley combined business with pleasure on a trip to the capltol city Thursday. Mrs. Elwyn Wride entertained the ladies of the Bee Orchis club at her home last Friday afternoon. Sewing Sew-ing and social chat were enjoyed following fol-lowing which a delicious lunch was served by the hostess. Mrs. Wride's mother, Mrs. Hayward was a special guest. The Lawata Club members and several special guests were entertained enter-tained last Friday afternoon by Mrs. j Mark Coddington. Bridge was played at four tables, Mrs. Harold Fox winning the club prize a Mrs. Kenneth Noyes the guest prize. A tasty lunch completed the afternoon's entertainment. Messrs. and Mesdames V. F. Houston, Hous-ton, David Taylor, Leo Meredith and Glen Sykes spent last week-end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Coddington at the Coddington ranch at Colton. The party visited in Helper Hel-per and Price, attending a dance in the latter place Saturday night, and enjoyed hiking and horse back riding rid-ing during their stay at the ranch. Peter A. Adamson returned last Friday from a two weeks trip to the coast in company with his son, Arthur Adamson and wife of Provo. They went to Los Angeles and then traveled up to San Francisco, where Mr, Adamson has a sister, Mrs. R. G. Wilson, whom they visited. The trip was enjoyed greatly reports Mr. Adamson. the First ward, together with al number of special guests gathered at the First ward chapel Tuesday night in a party arranged as a farewell" for Mr. and Mrs. George Meredith and daughter, Clea, who leave next week for Belle Fourch, South Dakota, to make their home. There were about 85 present at the' social. Mrs. Lillian K. Brown, first! counselor to Mrs. Meredith, who is Relief Society President, took charge. A program was given in which tribute was paid the splendid splen-did service rendered by this family fam-ily in the ward of which they have been residents for a number of years. Mrs. Meredith was presented present-ed wtih a book accompanied by lines composed by Mrs. Merling D. Clyde, expressing the appreciation of the Relief Society for their president. presi-dent. Games followed the program after which refreshments consisting of ice cream and cakes were served. ! Included among the special guests; were relatives of the family from American Fork and out of the city,' the members of the bishopric and; their wives, the presidency of . the stake Relief Society and the board members and their husbands. Mrs. Frank Peterson and daughter Francis visited in Eureka from Saturday to Monday with Mrs. Peterson's Pet-erson's sister, Mrs. Katie Towers. Mr. 'and Mrs. Marius Madsen, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Holmstead and son were guests Tuesday night of Mr. and Mrs. Marl Prestwich and family of Orem. Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Robinson and daughter Joyce returned to their 'home in Ogden Monday morning j after spending the week-end here with Dr. Robinson's mother, Mrs. Margaret Robinson, and Mrs. Robinson's Robin-son's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Aydelotte. Mrs. Alma Olsen entertained Friday Fri-day night in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stewart and daughter Phyllis who recently returned from a mission mis-sion to the Hawaiian Islands. Storrs, Miss Betha Storrs, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stewart and Miss Phyllis Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. William Storrs, of this city; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Nicholes of Riverton. Mrs. Bert Durrant entertained last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Walter Durrant for Miss teola Goates of Lehi who will wed Stewart Durrant of this city today. Twenty-four ladies were present at the shower and the bride-elect was presented with a number of lovely gifts. Games were enjoyed and a dainty lunch served. Relatives of Miss Goates have entertained also during the past week in Lehi On Monday, May 14th, a baby girl was born, to Mr. and Mrs. De Marr Dudley of Jensen, Utah. Mrs. Dudley formerly was Miss Mada Shelley of this city. Her mother, Mrs. George F. Shelley is in Jensen with the Dudley family. Of interest to friends here of Harold Werner is the announcement of his marriage to Miss Margaret Bressler of Cherry Creek, Nebraska, which took place recently. Mr. Werner is employed in the J. C. Penney Co. store in Torrington, Wyoming, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Werner of this city. They will reside in Torrington. Sparks from a burning poplar tree blown by the wind into grass below was the cause of the summons of the fire department Sunday afternoon. after-noon. A large old poplar tree opposite op-posite the Jack sager property had been set afire by boys the night be-ore be-ore and had smouldered all night until the blaze had crept to the upper up-per brandies by noon the next day.
