Eight bands have been secured to be used in the tarade and 'during the day's festivities festivi-ties One hundre'd beautiful floats be seen in an artistic parade led by the beautiful Strawberry Queen, He contest which is going forward, and votes being cast for a number of the popular girls. The Queen contest. Is open to all Utah Co. beauties. Strawberry Day although held in Pleasant Grove is for the entire state. It is the first festival ot the season. It was inaugurated in 1921 by the Chamber of Commerce to boost the strawberry iridustry of Utah. The foothills of Pleasant Grove and the land located on Provo Bench composed com-posed of limestone, gives wonderful flavor and color to the berries. The Marshall berry and Kellog Prize is particularly adapted to cold pack meihofl of storage. The berries are picked without stems and delivered to the canning companies. They are carefully washed and packed in containers, con-tainers, 1-3 sugar and 2-3 berries. Fifty gallon barrels are used when the berries are shippe'd a long distance dist-ance such as the New York market. Last year some were packed in small cans and sold over local markets as a special delicacy at Christmas time. More than thirty carloads were shipped ship-ped east of the Mississippi river last jear. The industry has grown in the past five years from a few acres to several thousand acres, and from the pe'ddlers vagon way of handling to a train load ot thirty cars. Last year 300 girls and young boys from all over the state as far south as St. George were secured to pick berries, some of the growers building special bouses to take care of their help. It Is customary for every community communi-ty to believe that Its people land natural conditions are best. This locality lo-cality pro'duces the finest fruits and berries in the intermountain region. On Strawberry Day 1000 cases of berries will be served with sugar and cream to the thousands of people who attend the celebration. The finest berries have been ordered for this occasion. There will be two Radio concerts Slven over KSL this year, one on Sa'urday, June 1st, between the hours " 10 and 11 p. m. Some of the tost musical talent of this city will be heard over the Radio. A short program and talk will be Sl'en at the Pantages Theatre Saturday Satur-day evening, Uune 1, between the ours of 9 and 10 p. m.
