I'sula Laredo, Texas Editor of Pleasant Grove Review American Fork, Utah Dear Editor: To me, it has been a source of much pleasure and contentment to receive weekly, the home paper, and j that by the perusal of its contents, 1 1 have been able to know what time evolves for those who are turning the wheels of progress at home. I have received the copies very regular and I think I have missed but one in the fifteen months that I have been away from home. It has been my privilege during my sojourn here to labor exclusively among the Lamanite people and has so for been my happy lot to work strictly on the border, most of the time in Iaredo, which is really an Americanized Mexican town, however bearing yet, very distinctly, resemblances resem-blances of its sister town, Nuevo Laredo, which is situated on the opposite op-posite bank of the river. There is a. population here of about 37,000, out of which there are approximately 34,000 Mexicans, thus making it a very Ideal place to present our message mess-age of truth to a portion of the Lord's chosen people, whose ancestors were truly heirs to this land of promise, but thru their unfaithfulness, have become a wondering lust desiring race. However, Catholoism seems to be the great barrier to impede their progress pro-gress and its stringent rule which has dominated for so long also may be held accountable more or less for the degree of illiteracy which now exisits in Mexico, as well as the frequent fre-quent uprisings and revolutions which are taking place there. Mexico is now going thru one of the greatest changes that has ever taken place in its history and in my opinion they are but striving to distinctly separate church and state that they might not rule each other, which is only a preparation pre-paration of people and conditions for the reception of the true Gospel mess age, when it is again offered to them. ' I deem it a great privilege to be here doing my bit to advance the cause of our Redeemer, which in turn gains for me a greater testimony of the restored Gospel. It is also my pleasure to mingle among a people whose customs, and standards of living liv-ing are far different from those at home. Thru their kindness, courtesy and hospitality, I have learned to love and respect them as I would the whitest of Americans. Once again I extend my thanks and appreciation for the Review and the excellent manner in which I have received it, and I trust that you may always enjoy success. Respectfully, Virgil V. Peterson.
