Show City Grants New Franchise for Spur Track An ordinance granting to the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Company the right to maintain, operate op-erate and reconstruct an existing spur-railroad track over and across First East street and First North in American Fork was passed and accepted ac-cepted at the meeting of the city council Saturday. This is the spur track running into the old Co-op. property, which franchise ran out recently. Insurance governing the Legion Building has been given to the Oregon Ore-gon Mutual Fire Insurance Company Com-pany and Recorder Barratt wras instructed in-structed to issue a warrant to cover the same. A letter was read from the State Industrial Commission of Utah ask- ing the city to fill out and certify to a payroll report giving the exact expenditures ex-penditures for all F. E. R. A. employees em-ployees for the year 1934. This material ma-terial is available only at the office of the F. E. R. A. so a committee was appointed to meet the request. Mr. Hyrum Adamson made a verbal ver-bal application for a class "C" beer license for a business now under construction. Inasmuch as the new liquor law might complicate the situation this application was tabled pending action by the newly established estab-lished state liquor commission. A request for the purchase of certain cer-tain properties near the Joseph Kirkwood home now owned by the city was received from Joseph Kirkwood. Kirk-wood. The matter was referred to the Public Property committee for investigation and action. Mr. L. H. Jackson appeared before the council with a request that he be extended the same consideration as was given other applicants in the pool hall business relative to license li-cense fees. He stated that they had paid for a six month license and had operated only two months and therefore felt that they were entitled to the same consideration extended to other competitors. Councilman Christensen therefore moved that the license for the past year be considered con-sidered on the same basis as others which would afford a refund. Chief Irving L. Pratt was present and reported that throughout the county the cities are meeting in an effort to set aside an appropriation for the fighting of fires within the county. He submitted a complete report with suggestions wherein changes could be made that might be 'advantageous to the city. He suggested further that the city officials offic-ials meet with other officials of the county and sponsor a setup which would guarantee an equitable distribution distri-bution to all throughout the county. Chief Pratt further reported that a request had been received from Elijah Chipman asking for his release re-lease both as a fireman and as secretary of the organization. It was recommended that this be done with a vote of thanks and that fireman Weston Pratt be appointed as secre- j tary. Councilman Nicholes reported that ' the Dump Grounds had been placed in a condition favorable to further clean up work and asked the cooperation coop-eration of all in maintaining this setup. The matter of securing action on F. E. R. A. projects submitted by the city was discussed at length and it was the decision of the council that the matter be carried to the Provo office. The mayor therefore suggested that the council as a whole meet the county officials Tuesday Tues-day to ascertain their attitude relative rela-tive to these matters and to use all influence necessary to secure the same. |
