Show Deer Creek Organization Plans Underway In State Work on the preliminary steps for forming the metropolitan water districts necessary to enable participation partici-pation in the Deer creek project, is now definitely underway and Secretary Sec-retary of the Interior Harold Ickes is reviewing the proposed articles of incorporation of the Provo River Waterusers' organization at Washington. Wash-ington. Marked progress has been made on the project during the past two months as a result of the intensive work by Governor Henry H- S'.cod and members of the project steering committee, headed by Mayor Louis Marcus of Salt Lake City. Reports on the progress made to date was made at the meeting of the committee held Tuesday in the office of Mayor Marcus. The present status of the project plans is as follows: 1. Salt Lake City and Provo will likely form separate districts co-extensive with their city limits with other municipalities subscribing for water forming a third district. 2. The articles of incorporation of the Provo River Waterusers' association, as-sociation, the contracting agency through which the government will deal with the individual waterusers, are now in the hands of Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes for approval. 3 Participating municipalities have agreed to subscriptions as follows: fol-lows: Salt Lake City, 44,000 acre-feet; acre-feet; Provo, 8,000 acre-feet; Mid vale, 1.10Q' acre-feet; Orem, 1,500 acre-feet; acre-feet; Pleasant Grove, 300 acre-feet; Lehi, 200 acre-feet; Sandy, 380 acre-feet acre-feet (not officially reported)- 4 Legal steps for Instituting friendly suit to test constitutionality constitutional-ity of metropolitan water district act and drawing of ordinances for city elections is in the hands of a special legal committee consisting of Judge A. V. Watkins, Orem; Abel John Evans, Lehi; Fisher Harris, Grant MacFarlane, Salt Lake City attorney and assistant; Raymond Holbrook, Provo city attorney. 5. Preliminary survey work to determine de-termine the most feasible route for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad's branch line from Provo to Heber is now under way by "the department depart-ment of interior. The new routing around the aam win prooaoiy run through a tunnel on the other side of the canyon. The state highway will also be re-routed from a point near Vivian Park to a point above the dam, skirting the edge of the lake to be formed when the water is impounded- o |
