Show School To Continue I To May 5th An agreement was reached Tuesday Tues-day evening between the Alpine School District board and the teachers teach-ers of the district whereby school is to be continued two weeks from April 21, or to May 5th, the board to issue pay for one week and the teachers to give one week's service. The board had previously found their available funds would carry the schools only to April 21st and were debating on the closing at this time. The necessity for an accredited 34 week school year outweighed the other arguments and resulted in a cooperative spirit between the board and teachers resulting in the agreement and the extra two weeks of school. This action on the part of the board and teachers will be met with hearty applause of parents of school children and especially by those having students graduating this year. The teachers are to be highly commended for their attitude in coming to the help of the people and board at a critical time like this when funds and tax revenue become exhausted. The agreement is to be finally consumated today (Friday) when the teachers submit their letter of agreement agree-ment to the superintendent accepting accept-ing the boards proffer and setting out their agreement to take care of the extra week. n |
