Show New Scenic Area Will Be Opened In Canyon The Utah county commission agreed Monday to maintain 1.44 miles of road in the Alpine Scenic Loop highway, which is expected to effect the opening of a new area for motorists, according to Charles De Molsy Jr. of Provo, supervisor of the Uintah National forest. The road, to be Improved by the bureau of public roads with forest highway funds, Is above Mutual IX-ll In the south fork of American Fork canyon. Funds for the $70,000 project were appropriated May 10, Mr. De Molsy said. Complete Grading Itoad crews have completed grading grad-ing the Alpine scenic loop, making the rugged scenery, convenient camp grounds, amphitheatres and recreational recrea-tional facilities of this area more accessible to summer reoreatlonal-IsU, reoreatlonal-IsU, according to J. E. Gurr, supervisor super-visor of the Wasatch national forest, in which the loop Is situated. The loop road is surfaced all the way from Provo to Aspen grove, an 18-mlle stretch, and practically all the way to Mutual Dell. The center section Is now in A-l condition as a result of the project just completed, Mr. Gurr states. V. N. West, forest ranger, was In charge of the project. Natural Beauties Over the entire 30-mile loop the natural beauties of the adjoining landscape present hundreds of attractions at-tractions for the sightseer, Mr. Gurr declares. Besides large amphitheatres at Aspen grove and Mutual Dell, where large conventions can be accomodated, accomo-dated, the area also has excellent camping facilities and fishing streams. Directed by Mr. Gurr and Mr. West, camps have been established which offer the best of outdoor facilities fa-cilities to large or small parties. Tables, toilets, stores and refuse cans are available in scores of camps. At the larger ones are ball grounds, volleyball and horseshoe courts, wading pools, and even showers for which the water is heated by the sun in pipes on top of the buildings. |
