Show No Fatalities In 16 Months-A. F. Traffic Record GOOD RECORD RESULT OF CAREFULNESS SAYS OFFICER Sixteen months without a traffic traf-fic fatality Is the highly commendable commen-dable record of American Fork City. Not since a year ago in February, when B. H. Harrington, Orem line brakeman was struck down and fatally injured, has anyone been killed in a traffic accident here. A combination of more care on the part of motorists, and safety promotion promo-tion Is believed to be the reason for the long safety record. Individuals and the city have added Immeasurably Immeasur-ably to reduction of traffic hazards by becoming traffic-safety-conscious, is the opinion of Melvin Grant, j state highway patrolman. Mr. Grant pointed out.however, that much room for Improvement remains. Many persons apparently still have not learned that all traffic traf-fic signs and signals are to be taken literally, that a driver should be able to see the way clear for 500 feet before be-fore attempting to pass another automobile on the open highway, that school children, whether in buses or on foot or bicycle, must be protected, and that the first rule of safe driving is courtesy. Patrolman Grant expressed the hope that drivers will do all they can to maintain the record established. estab-lished. The two automobiles which figured figur-ed in the fatal accident at Lehl last week attracted considerable attention atten-tion here. Brought here by the Martin Nielsen Auto company, the badly battered machines were viewed view-ed by scores of persons. |
