Show Mitchell Wins Appointment To District Post LEHI MAN SUCCEEDS APPOINTEE AS HEAD OF ALPINE SCHOOLS NEW SUPERINTENDENT TO ASSUME DUTY ON JULY 1 David R. Mitchell principal of the Lehi high school and a prominent civic leader, was appointed to the post of superintendent of the Alpine Al-pine district schools, at a meeting of the Alpine school board, Monday night. Mr. Mitchell will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Superintendent Superin-tendent David Gourley, who has accepted the appointment of assistant assist-ant State Superintendent of Public Instruction. ' ' His appointment became effective immediately, however, he . will not assume his new duties until July 1. Principal Mitchell will go to his new post well qualified for its duties-He duties-He is a leader in educational administration ad-ministration and is well capable of handling the affairs of his new office. He was born in American Fork, August 10, 1888, the son of David and Louisa Holindrake Mitchell, early pioneer settlers of American Fork. He received his early adu-cation adu-cation in the public schools of American Fork, later attending the Brigham Young university. He graduated from the Brigham Young university in 1911 with an A. B. degree in Educational Adinin-istration Adinin-istration and has done graduate work at the University of Chicago, Brigham Young university and the University of California. He began teaching in the Box Elder high school in 1911. He taught at the American Fork high school in 1912-13, at the Richfield high school in 1913-14, 1914-15, and 1915-16. 1915-16. He served as principal of the Salina high school in 1916-17, 1917-18 1917-18 and was principal of the Richfield Rich-field high school in 1918-19, 1919-20. 1919-20. He was an instructor in the Lehi high school during the school year of 1920-21 and was appointed principal of the Lehi high school in 1921 and has served in this office until the present time, a period of 17 years-He years-He served as a member of the Board of Control of the Utah High School Athletic Association for a number of years, was also chairman of the Board of Control for six years and president of the association associa-tion for a number of years. At the present time he is executive secretary secre-tary of the Utah High School Athletic Ath-letic Association. During 1929, 1930 and 1931 he served as a member of the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations. This board helps to shape athletic policies in the various states. At present he is a member of the National Na-tional Federation Football Rules Committee, and a member of the State Committee on College and High School relations. He has been active in civic and church affairs, and has served as president of the Lehi Lions club and the Civic club. For some time he served as a counselor in the old Alpine Al-pine stake M- I. A., and for a number num-ber of years he served as a counselor counse-lor in the Lehi stake M. I. A. He served on the board of governors govern-ors of the Alpine Teachers' Association Asso-ciation and as president of the Alpine Al-pine Teachers' Association. For two years he was president of the Sevier Se-vier County Teachers' Association. Mr. Mitchell has the best wishes of the community for much success in his new duties. o |
