Show The Oldest Cities The oldest city in the United States is St. Augustine, Fla. It was settled by the Spanish in 1565, and the site has been continuously occupied oc-cupied ever since. The second oldest old-est city in the United States is Santa Fe, N. M. It was founded by the Spanish, also, about the year 1605, on the site of a deserted Indian In-dian pueblo. Santo Domingo, capital capi-tal of the Dominican republic, founded in 1496, is the oldest settlement settle-ment of white people in the New world. The oldest settlement of white people on the mainland of the Americas is Panama, capital of the republic of Panama. This city was founded in 1519. |
