Show Mexicans Grew Dahlias The Mexicans had cultivated the dahlia before the Spaniards arrived in 1519, but it was about 300 years later, in 1791, that .the plants appeared ap-peared in Europe, at the Botanic gardens in Madrid, Spain. The newer new-er forms have all been brought about since 1800, says the Rocky Mountain Herald. The native Mexican Mex-ican name of the dahlia was acocot-li, acocot-li, which means water pipe, and I its present name is in honor of the famous Spanish botanist. Dr. Andreas An-dreas Dahl. |
