The ! meet was purely of an educational . character and' departed from the long established idea that interest in .uch events should culminate in contest con-test work. K. J. I Especially gratifying to those in-! in-! terested in the students from our high school were the results of their appvearances in the various departments. depart-ments. As stated before the meet cut away from the old idea of judging judg-ing by first, second and third places, and instead the participants were judged as "good," "excellent" or "superior", giving a wider range to judgment. In this way no actual competition was entered into, but the students were given criticism which was handed to the music directors di-rectors who later reported the comments com-ments to the students. The American Fork high school students rated well in the meet. The Male Glee, the Ladies Glee, and the male quartet were each rated "superior". "su-perior". The male quartet is comprised com-prised of Reed Davis, Darrell Wan-lass, Wan-lass, Earl Pulley and Winn Carlisle. The high school orchestra was given an "excellent" rating. In the individual numbers the judgment was: Reed Davis, tenor solo, "superior"; Bonna Ashby, alto solo, "superior"; Helen Johnston, violin solo, "superior"; James Wag-I Wag-I staff, bass solo, "superior"; Crandall 'Giddings, cello solo, "excellent"; Glen Haslam, saxaphone solo "ex-'cellent"; "ex-'cellent"; Clea Meredith, flute solo, "excellent"; Helen Ellison, alto solo, "excellent"; Merma Grant, violin solo, so-lo, "excellent." The Junior High school orchestra also participated in the day's events, but these students were not judged. The male glee of the local high school drew especially favorable comment during the day. All music directors, judges and superintendents of schools met in the evening at a banquet, and a dance for the students was given at night. |
