The program reflected sincere effort and it may readily be seen that a finer appreciation appre-ciation for good music was given not only to those who presented the numbers but to those who gathered to listen. The ward music groups rendered nine individual numbers, three numbers num-bers were sung by the mixed ensemble ensem-ble and one number by the ladies ensemble. There could not have been a person per-son in the congregation who failed to feel the inspiration of the last number "The Hallelujah Chorus" from "The Messiah" by Handel. In keeping with tradition, the congregation congre-gation arose and remained standing during the rendition of this number. "The Hallelujah Chorus" was the grand finale of a program of music well prepared and well given, and many have since commented on the splendid manner in which this difficult diffi-cult selection was sung. Mrs. Julia S. Baxter of the General Gene-ral Board of the Y. L. M. I. A., was called upon to talk and she expressed express-ed the appreciation of the members of the General Board for the splendid splen-did work the M. I. President Clifford E. Young spoke briefly on the value of music in our lives 'and called attention to the type of selections rendered on the program. pro-gram. Early in the program Mrs. Hammond gave a brief explanation of the purpose of the festival. Clarence Clar-ence A. Grant, stake superintendent of the Y. M. M. I. A., was in charge of the meeting. Jesse M. Walker of the stake presidency offered the invocation in-vocation and Stephen L. Chipman, former president of Alpine stake, pronounced the benediction. This music festival climaxed a season of study in music appreciation apprecia-tion in each of the wards and from those participating will be selected sixty singers who will be given the rare privilege of mingling their voices with several thousand others in the grand festival in Salt Lake in 'June, when Nobel Cain of Chicago eminent conductor will direct the singing. o |
