Show Long Distance .? Rates Seduced. i if Reductions in long distance tele-jj phone day rates, which it is esiiinat-j;; ed will save the public 3,000,000 ann-j. ually, will be in effect January 1, 19-1! SO, according to J- W. Myers local j ; manager for the Mountain States ; Telephone and Telegraph Company. It is the fourth such reduction in lit- tie more than three years. j Word of this reduction, which will apply throughout the Mountain States . territory and generally throughout ', the Bell Sys-em, was received by thai; local manager from F. II. Reid, Den-1 ver, president of the company. The new rates affect "station to, station" calls that is, calls on which j you are w illing to talk to anyone at the called telephone. I This latest cut is in line with the Dell System Policy to provide the best possible service at the least possible pos-sible cost. The last long distance rate reduction reduc-tion was effective Feb- 1, 1929 and similarly meant an annual saving of j about $5,000,000 to the public. This was preceded by another reduction on Dec. 1, 1927 which meant a saving of about $1,500,000, and one on Oct. 1, 1926 saving $3,000,000. While it has been possible to reduce re-duce the charges, the service has been extended thus making it more, valuable to the user because of pro-i gress toward the ultimate goal of enabling en-abling anyone anywhere to alk with anyone else anywhere else at any time. Some idea of the improvement in quality of service may be had from the fact that the average tipe now required in the Mountain States territory to complete a long distance connection is two minutes as compared compar-ed to almast six minutes in 1920. At the present time about 93 per cent of , all long distance connections are ! completed while the calling party i holds the line. |
