Show MYSTERY-COMEDY TONE'S FIRST FILM SINCE STAGE HIT Marking the return to the screen of Franchot Tone after a sojourn on the Broadway stage, "Fast and Furious," coming to the Cameo Theatre Sunday and Monday, December De-cember 24 and 25, affords the young actor a new type of role. In this comedy-mystery he plays the book expert-amateur detective husband of Ann Sothern and is given free rein to show his flair for comedy. Tone and Miss Sothern, as Joel and Garda Sloane, become involved in a double murder mystery while on their vacation at a seaside resort. Tone's best friend, played by Lee Bowman, is held for the murders and the plot revolves around the former's efforts to free him. To add to the entertainment possibilities, the entire action takes place during a beauty pageant, and Tone gets himself in trouble with Miss Sothern Soth-ern by accepting a position as a beauty judge. After many happenings, happen-ings, some nearly disastrous, the actor ac-tor solves the crimes and also squares himself with his wife. Spectacular numbers involving the use of the many bathing beauties in the story are studied throughout the picture and reflect the years Director Busby Berkeley spent arranging ar-ranging such numbers for big Broadway shows. The cast includes Ruth Hussey, Allyn Joslyn, John Milijan, Bernard Nedell and Mary Beth Hughes. |
