Show Organized Wards Offer Advantages, Says Missionary Clovis, N. M. Dec. 13. 1939 Dear Friends of the Alpine Stake, I am indeed happy, at this time, to join the other missionaries of the Alpine stake in sending Christmas Greetings and best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. At this glorious Christmas time, which is the anniversary of the birth of pur Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; there is brought to our minds more forcibly the significance of the great atoning sacrifice of our Redeemer and His teachings of peace on earth and good will toward men. Through the true Christmas spirit man is brought to a greater love for God and his fellow men. What a great force for good we could be in 1 this day if we, in the spirit of I Christ's teachings, would all unite j in the spreading of peace on earth I and good will toward men. The short time I have spent in the mission field has, indeed, been the happiest time of my life. I think it is a opportunity that everyone every-one should take advantage of if possible. Through my missionary work I have come to realize, to a fuller extent, how important this gospel of Jesus Christ is to a happy life. The first six months of my mission mis-sion were spent at Salida, Colorado, in the San Luis District and the last three months I have been laboring at Clovis, New Mexico, in the East New Mexico District. My labors have been very interesting and a source of great joy that I feel could not of been obtained elsewhere. I have come in contact with a great number of people who have visited Salt Lake City and other Mormon communities. As a general rule, they have a very complimentary complimen-tary opinion of the Mormon people. We find that our church is judged a great deal by what visitors observe ob-serve upon visiting our communities. By living our religion at home we can do more in many ways, to teach the Restored Gospel, than the mis- sionaries can out in the mission field. This proves the old saying "example is better than precept". We have had many interesting con- i versations with people because they have been impressed by the fruits of Mormonism when visiting our communities. com-munities. Upon coming in contact with members of our church in the mission mis-sion field, who do not live in an organized branch or ward I have come to realize what great privileges we have at home. We should, in- I deed, be thankful we live in organized organ-ized wards and stakes and should strive to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that are afforded us. I wish to say that I do apreciate the privilege of representing the Alpine Al-pine stake as a missionary. May the Lord bless all you fine people in , the carrying on of this great work at home and for your faith and-prayers and-prayers in my behalf. I am very thankful for the help you have given giv-en me. I also wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to the publishers of this paper for this opportunity op-portunity of writing to you and for their kind courtesy of sending me the "Citizen" for the past five months. I wish each and everyone of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Hap-py New Year. Sincerely a friend and Brother, Elder J. LeGrand Adamson Western States Mission |
