Show Youth Saves Pal From Drowning Herman Loeffler, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Loeffler of this city proved to be a real hero Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock when he rescued a pal, Warren Dee Hall, 16, from drowning in the mill pond a mile and a half west of American Fork. Young Hall is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Hall. The two lads with Jay Ston-s, 12, son of Roy Ston-s of Provo, and grandson of Mayor and Mrs. William S. Storrs of this city, had gone to the mill pond for a swim. The Hall and Loeffler boys had gone in and Storrs was sitting on the bank. Dee was not as good a swimmer as his friend and tired out after a long play in the water tried to swim across when his strength gave way. Herman was farther out in the pond than Dee when he heard his cry for help and in looking back was dismayed to see his friend go down. Dee went down twice as his friend swam frantically to aid him and was just going under for the third time when Herman caught him by the right arm and started to swim for shore. He pulled the exhausted youth upon the bank and was relieved re-lieved to find he was conscious and 'able to stagger to his feet. Dee was confined to his bed a half day Monday Mon-day and since then has been around as usual. The parents of Dee are very grateful grate-ful to young Loeffler for his bravery. |
