Show Sportsmen issue hypothermia warnings to hunters The Pleasant Grove Sportsmen are starting their monthly meetings meet-ings again. After a summer of fun camping and fishing, it's time to start getting ready for the fall hunts. (Aren't we always ready for the hunts?) ' This month's meeting will be held Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. club-house. The speaker will be Greg Bird, who was a guide with the Rafter C Outfitters. He will tell about hunting trophy deer and elk and will have some of his mounted heads and possibly a video. The-public The-public is invited and there will be a shoot after for club members. We want to remind every hunter that the silent killer will be stalking stalk-ing you again this year. He will prey upon the unprepared and the inexperienced hunter or camper. Be careful and be ready to defend yourself against the killer we call hypothermia. Hypothermia occurs when the body's core temperature is lowered. The combination of cooler weather, moisture (from perspiration or the elements), and wind can set the stage for hypothermia. If you are unprepared, ill-equipped, often exhausted and without a heat source, it's just a matter of time. Hypothermia can nappen on relatively warm days between 40 to 60 degrees, if you get wet and are in any kind of wind, even your own movement can cool down your body. To prevent hypothermia, try to stay dry. Wear waterproof clothing in stormy weather and avoid overexertion over-exertion that leads to perspiration. Wear wool or wool blends. The material holds in heat even when wet. Dress in layers so you can adjust your clothes to the change in temperatures. If you get wet and cold, build a fire immediately. Dry your clothes and your body.
