City Councilman Dale Warburton said that the judging was very close. He complimented the commis-sion for their efforts during the summer. The members of the commission include Chairman David Perry, Paulette Oveson, Connie Bullock, Keith Jensen, Frank Graham and Marvin Radmall. Spouses of the judges also helped with the selections. The city was divided into five areas including Manila, the North-east Quadrant, Southeast Quad-rant, Northwest Quadrant, and Southwest Quadrant. A different yard was selected for its beauty and improvement from each section each week. The city plans to continue this beautification effort each summer. Public Works Director FW Mills reported that the city had fewer complaints about unsichtlv yards this year and felt that it was due in large part to the beautifies, tion efforts. In keeping with the tradition of "Fire Chief for a Day," all children will be given a safety checklist they must complete and return to their school or to McDonald's in Ameri-can Fork by Monday, Oct. 16. Parents, please help and encour-age all elementary school children to participate in this program. The child drawn for "Chief for a Day," will receive a fire helmet, a plaque and have their name en-graved on the plaque that hangs on the fire department wall. The "chief will spend the day on the fire truck. They will conduct a fire inspection with the fire depart-ment's help, extinguish a fire and tour the city buildings to see how things run. That evening they will have dinner at the fire station with the firemen. McDonald's in American Fork is also going to give the winner a surprise gift. |
