Nursing Home Week Brightly colored balloons rose above Heritage Convalescent Center Cen-ter last week, signaling the observance obser-vance of National Nursing Home Week by residents. Each of the approximately 200 helium filled spheres contained a note giving the name of the resident, resi-dent, the address of the convalescent convales-cent center, and ended "I'd like to hear from you." Residents are hoping their balloons bal-loons took off in the breezes and they will get replies from some far off place. The observance, built around the theme "A Tradition of Caring" also included the raising of a flag that has flown over the nation's capitol. The flag was unveiled during ceremonies conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign War District 4, and followed a 21-gun salute by the VFW members. Mrs. Garrett said the flag pole had been broken for quite sometime, some-time, and had been fixed for the occasion. The flag was obtained with the assistance of Congressman Congress-man Howard Nielson, she said. Following the flag raising, veterans vet-erans residing at the convalescent center were recognized. Fifth and sixth grade students from nearby Forbes Elementary School, and members of the American Ameri-can Fork High School A Cappella choir also performed on the program. |
