Show PG City to begin 'drug free' program Pleasant Grove City will begin a drug-free policy as part of their personnel program in the near future. fu-ture. The city council was told last Tuesday that the federal government govern-ment is going to require any government gov-ernment receiving federal money to have a drug-free work place for employees. The city must first provide a drug-awareness program for the employees. Following a thorough explanation of what a drug-free work place consists of, employees must agree to remain drug free and must notify the city if they use drugs. Conviction for drug abuse will have a direct result on the status of employment. The city will have options such as requiring drug rehabilitation or even dismissal. The city will develop this policy in the near future and it will be placed in the personnel manual. In other matters, the city council coun-cil was asked to review a possible new ordinance dealing with the establishment of regulations for the use of city parks. Basically, the ordinance would make it unlawful to camp within a city park without first obtaining a written permit to do so from the city; to build or ignite a fire except in a receptacle provided for the purpose without getting permission; permis-sion; to leave or deposit rubbish or refuse anywhere except in trash containers; to bring rubbish or refuse ref-use to a pubic park or to leave trash or rubbish generated from off-park activities in any park refuse container; con-tainer; to pick or damage any flowers, flow-ers, vines or shrubs. Other items listed as unlawful would be possession of any firearm or discharge of a firearm; pollution of any creek or stream of water; to have in possession or consume any beer or other alcoholic beverage; to engage in any archery activity; to engage in any golf activity; to engage en-gage in playing of Softball or baseball base-ball except within the physical confines of park facilities which are provided for such use; to engage en-gage in any sport for which the physical facilities are not available; to drive or ride a self-propelled vehicle or ride an animal within a public park; to drive or ride a motorized mo-torized vehicle within the park. This ordinance will be reviewed and brought up for discussion at a later date. The city council authorized the signing of a resolution making the week of May 22 through May 27 as Poppy Week. They also declared the week of May 24-31 as Senior Citizen Week. The public is invited to visit the senior citizen center any time that week. A bond of $25,000 will be required re-quired by the custodial firm which is hired to do the work in the city buildings, the city council decided. Councilman Dale Warburton reported that the city beautifica-tion beautifica-tion program will begin on June 15. The signs are prepared and judging judg-ing will be ready to go. A temporary fence will be put up between Wils Park and the railroad rail-road tr acksfor the summer. A more permanent fence will be installed later on. The council discussed the allocation allo-cation of $3,700 to purchase the software necessary for the library computer. This will formally be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting. When the new library was completed com-pleted a year ago, the city council authorized the loan of about $90,000 from one city fund to the library fund so that it could be completely paid for. The council has now authorized the payback of that loan from funds in the Capital Improvement Fund. |
