Show Dusten Nielson enjoys past summer as bareback rider, queen competitor i I i 8 f I - -" Dusten Nielson of Pleasant Grove has been ridingandtraininghorses for quite a few years now. She has been in 4-H showing for six years and still showing until her last year. When in school she was active in the FFA, where she won the horse proficiency award. Thisyearatthe Lindon Fairshe won first place in the tandem bareback bare-back event with her sister, Brenda, on her horse Luras Star Bar. The Utah County Fair open youth horse show was held this year on Aug. 16. Dusten competed in the 14 to 18 age group. She used a horse named Big Piney, which is owned by her sister, Angela Austin of Nephi. Dusten then competed in various events and won the Ail-Around. For winning this, she got a saddle blanket. The Pleasant Grove Community Fair was held Sept. 9 this year and ; here she used a horse owned by Jim Smith of Pleasant Grove and trained by Dusten herself. This was a special spe-cial day for her. The horse, De-seredo's De-seredo's Gal, had her first show for the year and helped Dusten to will the Ail-Around. She won a full length horse blanket. The Utah Quarter Horse Queen tryouts were held on Sept. 30 this year in Riverton. She did not place this year, but she didn't come home empty handed either. She won the Congeniality award from among 11 other girls. All of the girls voted for the one that was the most fun to be around, so Dusten felt that winning this was an honor and is looking forward for-ward to next year's tryouts. The horse she used for this contest is owned by Jamie Kauffer of Highland, High-land, "Hitch Hikin' Hobo."
