Parents, students invited to summer band pow-wo-w A brief meeting for summer band members and their parents will be held Saturday, May 21, at 9 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove High School Band Room. All band students who will be in the ninth through twelfth grades during the 1988-8- 9 school year are invited to participate. The summer band performs throughout June at local parades and concerts. The band is attended by a 15 member drumline which has been rehearsing since May 7. The appearance of the band is enhanced by the colorguard of tall flags and batons. A few positions in the colorguard are still open. In-terested girls should attend the meeting Saturday. Anyone with questions should contact David Fullmer at they high school if they will be unable to attend Saturday's meeting. Rhonda Simmons was the region champion in the 100 meter hurdles and Craig Hayden was champion in the boys' high jump. Other girls who were point win-ners were Shanna Nielsen put), Korrine Estes, put), Kirsten Van Dyke (5-4- meters), Korrine Estes Sherilyn Patch, Karen Christensen, Kirsten VanDyke and Lena Kerr were second in the medley relay. Others who qualified for state are Eric Cook in the 3200m run, and the 1600m run; Jason Lutes in the discuss; Craig Hayden in the long jump and the high jump; Bill Larsen in the 400m run. Girls who qualified include the girls medley relay team of Sherilynn Patch, Karen Christensen, Kirsten Van Dyke and Lena Kerr with Mindy Hall as alternate; Shanna Nielsen in the shotput; Rhonda Simmons in the 100 m. hurdles; and Korvie Estes in the discuss. . Viking kickers qualify for state soccer tournament Pleasant Grove defeated Springville 2 in the final Region 8 soccer match to earn a spot in the state soccer tournament. Cory Short, David Adamson and Craig Gaines booted goals to boost the Vikes over the Red Devils. Gaines' score came on a penalty kick. The win earned Pleasant Grnve third place in Region 8 with a record. PG opens state tournament play at Judge Memorial today at 1:45 p.m. State games will be played at Woods Cross High School in north Salt Lake. Judge Memorial are the defen-ding state champs. Wrong ward listed in mock disaster We had a minor disaster of our own when the wrong ward was listed in the mock disaster story printed in The Review a couple of weeks ago. The ward which held the mock disaster was the Pleasant Grove Fourth Ward and the report said it was the Fifteenth Ward. The Review apologizes for the mistake and regrets any in-convenience it may have caused. |
