Plumbers Scored three in the fourth inning ad two in the fifth to make it close, but could get no closer. Sanders scored three more in the sixth in ning to finish out the scoring. Sanders received the cham-pionship trophy, as well as ASA 100 Year Anniversary for finishing the regular season in first place. Plumbers took the runner-u- p trophy as well as anniversary hats for their second place finish in the league. Division II Cook's Wallbangers had a field day against Wils in the cham-pionship game, winning by a score of 12-- The game was ended after eight innings on the "eight run rule." Everybody on Cook's reached first base at least once as they banged out 10 hits while giving up only four hits to Wils. Cook's jumped out early with five runs in the first inning. Both teams played even for the next two in-nings, with both teams scoring one run in the third. Cook's scored six more in the fourth inning, while Wils was unable to get a man past second base the remainder of the game. Cook's Wallbangers received the championship trophy for their first place finish in the tournament, as well as anniversary caps for their second place finish in the league. The runner-u- p trophy went to Wils for their tournament finish. Com-puters Made Easy will receive anniversary for their first place finish in the league. The Pleasant Grove City Parks and Recreation Department would like to extend a hearty thank you to the team sponsors, score keepers, umpires, concessionaries, ground-skeeper- s and spectators for their support of this year's league. They would also like to wish the teams the best of luck in the state tour-naments in their respective classifications. Jared Passmore sets state record in Hershey's meet Jared Passmore, 9, of Pleasant Grove, broke the state standing long jump record for boys ages 9 and 10 at the Hershey's Track Meet held in Salt Lake City last weekend. Jared, son of Steve and Elizabeth Passmore, made a jump of 7' 8", breaking the old mark by 6 inches. He outjumped the second place finisher by 10 inches. Jared took third place in the nation in his age category last year in the Hershey's program. He is hoping that his jump will be the best of the state winners in Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, California and Utah. If it is, he will represent the Olympics the past two years. Last year he won in both the ward and stake and he won in the ward again this year. The stake event has not been held yet. This year is the 10th anniversary of the Hershey's National Track and Field Youth Program. It is still a playground program designed to introduce children to physical fit-ness through basic track and field events. They still insist that children should have fun participating in the program; that the "winning is everything" attitude does not belong in their playground program. Jared Passmore west at the finals in Hershey, Pa. on Aug. 15. The announcement of the finalists will be made in about two weeks. Last year a new national record was set at seven feet seven and one-four- th inches. ' Other participants from Pleasant Grove who placed in the meet were Daman Frazier, 13-1- 4 age group, fourth place in the 800 meter race; and Jennifer Mills, 11-1- 2 age group, sixth place in the 100 meter race. Jared will be going into fifth grade at Manila School this fall. He enjoys wrestling in Coach Darold Henry's program. He has wrestled since he was four and has never been defeated. He also likes gymnastics. He has won in the Cub Scout Young golfers invited to competitive golf class at the Tri-Cit- y Golf Course Those interested will be placed on a waiting list once the 12 slots alloted to Pleasant Grove have been filled. If American Fork and Lehi do not use their 12 slots assigned to them, players will be signed up from the waiting list on a first come, first served basis. pleasant Grove Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with Tri-Cit- y Golf Course, will be offering a competitive golf class for junior golfers. All of those interested are invited to sign-u- but a basic knowledge of golf is required. There mil be 12 young people who will go from Pleasant Grove. You must be a Pleasant Grove resident to part-icipate. Rules and etiquette will be taught, but no stroke instruction will be included. Please at the Recreation Office Building, 41 E. 200 South - do not register at the golf course. The cost will be $10 per player. The class will run from July 28 through August 25. The class will be on Tuesdays, with tee time between noon and 1 p.m. Students are to bring their own clubs and a 1 through 9 hole scorecard the first time. The instruction will include 15 minutes of class, then ine holes of golf each time. If you need further information, please call the golf course. Only two or three more sessions are left. The instruction is excellent, with small classes that give the children more individualized attention. There will be one more session starting on August 10. ( j The convention was attended by r 3,000 leaders of Key Clubs ' moA the world and it was the J 44th convention of its kind and was the largest ever held. The three days were filled with inspirational talks, forums on leadership and was highlighted by a Dance-a-tho- n which raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy program and the purchase of a van for use in the Meals on Wheels project in Toronto. The local participants are en-thused with this world wide program and the opportunity to be of service on a local level. Each was excited with the four day activity and await the opportunity to par-ticipate in a future exercise of this type. |
