Show Local judge completes law course in Nev. Judge Colleen Strasburg of the Industrial Commission of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah has completed the Administrative Law: Fair Hearing course, held June 21 - July 3 at The National Judicial College at the University of Nevada. Judge Strasburg is involved in the area of labor relations, claims of unpaid wages and child labor. The course is designed for administrative ad-ministrative law judges, hearing offices, commissioners, referees and examiners of federal, state, regional and local administrative agencies. Emphasis is placed on how to hear all types of administrative law cases with special treatment of high volume proceedings that involve both represented and unrepresented parties. The goal is to enable an administrative law adjudicator to conduct a fair hearing, producing a record that will withstand attack. Among areas specifically covered were case preparation; prehearing discussion with parties; presiding responsibilities; evidentiary problems; hearsay; motions; burden of proof; credibility; use of telephone hearing techniques; decision-making process; decision-writing decision-writing and effective case management to reduce delay. |
