Show State tourneys beckon PGHS volleyball and football teams All Booster Club members, alumni and fans are urged to fill the stands with blue and white and help provide a "support system" that follows the PGHS football team and volleyball team into state playoff games. One of the purposes established by the Booster Club is to help provide the enthusiasm, momentum and Viking pride the athletes and coaches deserve. Don't be left out! Wins this past week have secured the Vikings and Lady Vikings spots in state tournament play. For the football team, this is both good and bad news. The good news is that fans may attend another home game. The bad news is the matchup with another team from our own region, which following the coin toss, will be Timpview, whom the home town team defeated just last Friday in a wet, but exciting, game. The Lady Vikings won the first and third games to defeat Uintah in a tough region match last Thursday, Thur-sday, Senior Erin Measom played her usual strong game at the net to spark the aggressive combination in blue and white, with several juniors adding strength. Setter Mindv Hall, who plays on the JV and varsity teams, came off the bench with the ingredient that pulled the sputtering offense together for the win. Strong on the back row was Vikki Allred, a regular starter, also a junior, who played a consistant game all around, and Traci Williamson, who started against Uintah and made some beautiful serves and saves at the net. Another junior who has seen a lot of playing time is Pam Beagley. Adding depth to the Lady Vikes is Jenny Wells. Coach Bone can look to these girls to provide the nucleus for next season. But right now attention is turned to the games that make all the practice, injuries and workouts worth it all -- state tournament play. Remaining region games will be Tuesday, Oct. 27 and then the last home game Thursday, Oct. 29, against Springville. The ladies will finish region play in Provo on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Watch for announcements for time and place in state competition. Join the fun! Join the Boosters! See you at the games! |
