Show Lindon mulls revenue bonds 9 I By KALYN SECRETAN Lindon City has passed a resolution authorizing and inducing the erection of a memorandum of agreement with Mountain States Steel Incorporated, a Utah Corporation, Cor-poration, regarding the issuance and appropriating up to four million dollars of Industrial Development Revenue Bonds for a manufacturing project. Attorney Gene Jacobs met with the Council, he has been working with Jack Olsen who is purchasing the McNally Steel property. Olsen feels an opportunity is open to get some types of manufacturing now with Geneva in operation. He needs capital for new equipment. Lindon City would issue the bonds without any liability to the city. Bonds would be paid back with the revenue of the project. Several neighbors of the former Watts Lumber attended the council meeting in a response to notice of a public hearing. Giraffics bought the property and are operating in the building. They have asked for a zone change. They own an alfalfa field behind the buildings and they are anxious to add on an area for storing equipment equip-ment and would like to expand 110 feet. The property includes a proposed roadway on the Master Plan. A neighbor, Mr. Brewer, offered to buy the proposed roadway property. Neighbors would like the assurance there will never be a road go through. A couple of neighbors questioned the expansion and asked if a Sec I.iiiilon :t Lindon City Council business Continued from page '' foundry was located in the building Mr. Lee from Giraffics stated there was a small foundry weighing about 90 pounds. He will offer a buffer zone and he does not have a noisy business. Legally he could make a roadway now. but is offering a trade-off with I he neighbors. They can have the roadway property and he can expand ex-pand his business. The council stated they do not have any plans for a roadway. In looking over the commercial zoned area, the 500 feet back from State Street zoned commercial has created problems. It needs to be changed to a logical order as it is cutting into businesses. The council decided to grant the request, eliminating the 212 x 50 piece of property to be sold to Mr. Brewer conditional on the sale of the property. City Engineer Dave Thurgood met with the Council and was instructed in-structed to move full speed ahead with the UDAG project on the East side of Geneva Road. Thurgood reported they are working hard to meet the deadline on the debris basin. The debris basin at Squaw Hollow began last week and is more difficult than the Dry Canyon project. They had an emergency at Orem following the all night rainfall. Three feet of water came out of Dry Canyon. The next morning, workers could hear it coming and they got the backhoe and people out and pulled out the forms at the debris basin. The election judges appointed were Marilyn Kunic, Ila Johansson and Merle Jarvis who will serve as Election Judges for Districts 1 and 3 at the City Hall. Linda Preece, Norma Brown and Carol Chidester will serve District 2 - 4 at the Lindon School. |
