Jeri Sue was selected as an attendant. Local girls compete in Utah Co. Dairy Princess Pageant By Kalyn Secretan Three local young women competed com-peted in the Utah County Dairy Princess contest. They were all sponsored by local dairy farmers and one contestant, Jeri Sue Fryer was chosen as an attendant. Jeri Sue, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Fryer was sponsored by Warnick Farms. Wendy Groo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Groo was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Dean Blackhurst. Karen Secretan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Secretan was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Kent Anderson. The contest sponsored by dairy farmers and the purpose is to promote the use of dairy products and educate the girls about the dairy production and industry. Contestants are expected to submit a poster, which will be on. display for National Dairy Month in June. They also have to write a jingle or commercial which they sing or recite during the pageant. Dairy recipes are submitted and each participant makes her favorite dish and brings to the luncheon. Sixteen contestants along with their mothers and committee members met last Thursday, April 25 for a luncheon where the delicious dairy recipes were served. Two recipes were chosen winners including a cheesecake made by Barbara Bean of 'Jlk Ridge and Chicken Filled Crepes by Laurie Neves, Payson. The contestants participated in a full day of activities. Last years royalty was present and told of the activities they participated in during the year. The girls not only ride on floats but attend dairy, convention, give awards at the Spanish Fork Stockshow and visit schools where they tell about the Dairy Inudstry. Kathy Haskell spoke to the contestants and their mothers while the dairy recipes were being judged. She spoke on goals and encouraged contestants to set goals in all areas of their life. Kathy is . the wife of Larry Haskell, the new USU Extension Agent for Utah County. The Pageant Banquet was held Thursday evening where the girls modeled their evening gowls. 1984 Princess Jill Dymock of Orem described the gowns as they were modeled by contestants. Master of Ceremonies, Walt Stewart delighted the audience and called on each contestant to give a jingle and answer a dairy question. Entertainment was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Lhmond Jones. The 1985 Dairy Princess and her attendants at-tendants were crowned by last years royalty. Keri Allen of Mapleton was named Princess with the following attendants. Jeri Sue Fryer, Pleasant Grove, Lynnell Anderson, Genola, Annalese Fillmore of Lehi and Barbara Bean from Salem. Annalese was also named Miss ( Congeniality. All the girls agreed it was a special day. They enjoyed . meeting and making friends with ; others from throughout the county. The new royalty will begin their reign by giving awards in May at the Spanish Fork Stock Show. |
