Show Alpine Center for Mental Health and Human Services opens The Alpine Center for Mental Health and Human Service has opened in the American Fork Medical Center, 120 N. 1220 East, Suite 11. Dr. Tony LaPray, director, says the clinic is multi-disciplinary, and offers services for everything from family and marriage problems to pain management, individual neurosis or psychosis, depression, anxiety, alcoholism and drug abuse. Appointments may be made by calling the Center at 756-3664, and having receptionist Christine Boswell schedule the time. The Center is staffed by local psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. "Nearly all of our staff reside in the local area," Dr. LaPray said, adding, "We tried to have people with ties with Utah County so they would better understand conditions in the area, and problems here." Staff members also work closely with the Behavioral Unit at American Fork Hospital, giving follow-up treatment to individuals who have been in the Behavioral Unit when needed. In most cases, insurance will pick up part if not all of the costs of treatment. "We are heavily family oriented, and will be working with both the individual and his or her family in treatment," Dr. LaPray said. An individual going to the Alpine Center would be assigned to one of the counselors for initial psychological evaluations, testing, etc. They would continue to work with this counselor, but would be referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist, if needed. If medication is needed, this would be perscribed by the psychiatrist. Dr. LaPray resides in Highland. He has taught at both Brigham Young University and the University Univer-sity of Utah. He also worked for a time with the mentally handicapped at the Utah State Training School. Currently he operates the largest private mental health clinic in Utah in Salt Lake City. |
