Frosh win league championship; undefeated By JOHN HILL Last Saturday, the Pleasant Grove ninth grade football team finished a great football season by beating the Provo Bulldogs 50-20 in the championship game of the Cougar Conference. This is the second year in a row that the Vikings have won the Cougar Conference Championship. Although the final 50-20 score suggests a lopsided game, the first half was hard-fought by both teams and the halftime score was 14-6 for the Pleasant Grove team. The third quarter was the turning point of the game. Pleasant Grove scored three touchdowns and held Provo to a minus 45 yards in total offense. During the third quarter, Justin Atwood had four quarterback sacks. Chad Fraughton had another 100-plus-yards game. He now has five 100-plus yard games including this game in which he gained 169 yards rushing. The Vikings went undefeated this year by beating Timpview 36-0; nan irani iinnmnn hi Spanish Fork 32-26 (double overtime); over-time); Payson 34-0; Springville 14 12; Orem 25-6; Lehi 50-0; and Provo 50-20. The Vikes averaged 290 yards total offense and 34 points per game. Their opponents" averaged 155 yards total offense and nine points per game. Congratulations Vikings! WS. ;-WWB - |
