Lee of Pleasant Grove, professor of analytical chemistry at BYU, has been awarded the 1984 Tswett Chromatography Medal for his improvements of an important technique for chemical analysis. Lee, who has taught classes and done research at BYU for the past eight years, was given the medal during recent meetings in New York of the 20th International Symposium on Advances in Chromatography. Two researchers worldwide are given the prestigious honor each year. Lee's reputation for first-rat- e research centers on his im-provements of capillary chromatography, a technique that separates a complex substance into its components by shooting samples : : ' ,, ', '' , '','?' ! Dr. Milton L. Lee Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author or of more than 120 scientific articles and is of two books. Lee and his wife, Susan Hintze, who earned a B.S. degree in medical technology from USU in 1970, have four children. Lee is the son of Dr. Garth L. and Lila H. Lee of Hyrum. A native of Hyrum, Lee attended Utah State University for two years and graduated in chemistry from the University of Utah in 1971. He worked at Saratoga as promotion manager after leaving the Provo dairy. He then entered the entertainment business as public relations man for performing stars at Lagoon and Valley Music Hall before becoming an independent producer. Beveridge, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Beveridge of Pleasant Grove, is married to the former Gaylyn Hooley of Orem. They have four children and four grandchildren. J Producer, Stewart H. Stewart was bom and raised in - Pleasant Grove. In addition to the prestigeous black-ti- e dinner at the Sheraton e. Hotel, participants attended a celebrity fashion show and charity it. auction and visited the White House by special invitation. Purpose of the star-studde- d event, which drew more celebrities to Washington than any event since President Reagan's inaffuration, is to honor individuals whose charitable work has been outstanding and to raise funds for worthwhile charitable projects. Honored at the June 16 dinner " were Vice President and Mrs. ' George H. Bush and Virginia Gov. Charles Robb. The $l,000-a-coupl- e dinner and the charity auction raised more ' than a million dollars to purchase powdered milk and seed grain for displaced persons in Central America refugee camps. Honoree8 of previous years include Mrs. Jimmy Carter for her work on behalf of starving Southeast Asians; former President Gerald R. Ford for his work in behalf of alcohol rehabilitation; and President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan for their work in drug rehabilitation. Mrs. Ronald Reagan served as "us year's honorary chairman with former President Gerald R. Ford, Pat Boone, Bob Hope, Mrs. Jimmy Carter. Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson and Barry Manilow as honorary The dinner attracted celebrities from many endeavors, including politics, entertainment and sports. Other participants include Charlton Heston, George Kennedy, Fred MacMurray, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Andy Williams, Phyllis Diller, Joe Montana, Willie Mays, Cicely Tyson and Ava Gabor. Also attending was Clara Peller, whose name is anything but a household word, but whose face and surly comment, "Where's the Beef?" has made her a favorite among millions of Americans. The fashion show, featuring exquisite gowns, was presented by a designer for England's Princess Diana. At the auction, most of the celebrities donated something personal. For instance, Willie May's all-sta- r ring sold for $3,000. Pat Boone donated a pair of white buck shoes and Fred MacMurray donated an original script for the TV series, "My Three Sons." Beveridge, a recipient of the "Hollywood Film Advisory Award of Excellence" for feature film production, producer of a movie which played on national television "N.B.C.'s Sunday Night Big Event" and more than 100 concerts throughout the country, attended the Washington affair with Pat Boone. Beveridge described it as "the greatest event socially and professionally in my 20 years in the entertainment business." A native of Pleasant Grove, Beveridge started in the work-a-da- y ,world after graduating from Nevada tourney honors memory of Clarence Wilson Wils Family of Pleasant Grove placed fourth in the City of Ely Clarence Wilson Memorial Softball Tournament over the weekend in Ely, Nevada. The tournament is anticipated to be an annual classic in memory of Clarence Wilson, formerly of Pleasant Grove. Wilson, a long-tim- e supporter of fastpitch Softball in Utah and Nevada, passed away last year. Four teams from Utah County made the trip to Ely to participate in the 12 team tourney. Wils Family, Utah Valley Saints, Southam-Warburto- n Aluminum and S.A.G.S. The first three teams play in the Pleasant Grove league while S.A.G.S. is from Spanish Fork. Steed Electric from Ogden, took first place with Coca Cola in second spot. Page Brake Boys team was third. Named to the Team from Wils Family were Jeff Wilson and Jan Christensen. Quen Wilson received the Golden Glove Award. Shon Danklef of the Utah Valley Saints, and Clark Hansen, playing for Southam-Warburto- n Aluminum, were named to the 12 member All-St- ar squad. On July 6, the Monday, Wed-nesday and Friday classes will be starting. On July 10 the daily classes will start. On July 17 the Tuesday and Thursday classes will start and on July 25 the third Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes will be starting. Mrs. Hoover reminds everyone that for a fun and effective way to exercise, to come to their "Wateraerobics" class on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 9:50 a.m. or daily at 2:30 p.m. Those interested in the class can pay $1.50 per time, or if they pay at first, will .. get $2 off the regular $12 fee.
